Blogger Position –

Anime/Anei Blogger: Watch Animes old or new all the way through, and then write a review on that anime without giving out spoilers or critical details to the anime. The blog post must include Main Characters, Genre of Anime, Family Rating (Fairly PG, PG-13, ect.), Your thoughts on the Series, and Information on who created the anime. Can blog about Manga/ManHwa. (ManHwa and Anei are the Korean equivalents)

J/K-Drama Blogger: Same as the Anime Blogger, You are to watch a series all the way through and write your thoughts on it. The blog post must include Main Characters and their Actors who play them, Genre of Drama, Family Rating (Fairly PG, PG-13, ect.), Your thoughts on the Series, and Information on who created the Drama.

Beauty Blogger/Reviewer: This consists of reviewing Korean and Japanese products and rating them out of 10. 10 being the best, 0 being the worst. You are to provide the products to review on your own (Pay for them yourself). You can blog about the latest Korean/Japanese trends in Fashion or Beauty. You may also film your own K-Pop/J-Pop inspired looks with approval of head admins.

Foodie: FOOD FOOD FOOD! This is probably one of the most filling positions. Doing Reviews on Korean/Japanese dishes and restaurants. Cooking and Recipes. Write a blog on how you feel about that certain dish, restaurant, and/or recipe. Don’t limit yourself to trying the same dish at 4 different restaurants. Be open to try new things, even if they seem gross at first. Exploring the world via food is something a lot of people look forward too. ( Also must pay for meals on your own)

J/K-Pop Blogger: The Hallyu/Cool Japan wave has taken over, and we need someone’s help to control it! When Debuts and Comebacks happen, it’s hard to find out information on groups. Being a J/K-Pop blogger, you would give out all the details on new comebacks and debutes, also info on Concerts/tours that would be coming to the US.

Hip Hop Unit: Japanese and Korean Hip Hop is slowly coming to light, this also means the underground. This requires a lot of knowledge on underground music and learning to contact new artists in helps of spreading their music.

OTHERS:

Album Reviews: Collecting Albums is a big part of the Hallyu/Cool Japan community. Reviewing these albums or filming Album unboxings is something a lot of fans look for before buying albums. You would be in charge of contacting Album merchants to get coupon codes, potential giveaway products, and in helps to find the best store to get albums.

Conventionist: Do you like to Cosplay or attend conventions? This is perfect for you. This group would be in charge of being press at a convention. Which means you get to enjoy all aspects of the con, view the panels and events you wish to see, but also potentially contact and talk with voice actors, con leaders and famous cosplayers about their work.

Concert Press: Unfortunately, Small groups like ourselves are likely to only get 1-2 press passes per concert. If the concert allows photography, you can do this from anywhere in the Venue. We would like our Press to have good cameras/photography skills. You would also need to talk with the rest of the group on which 1 or 2 get the pass. Write a blog about the concert, include set list.

Performance Unit: Is Performing your passion? We have a lot of events that LOVE to see performing arts. This includes Singing, Dancing, and story time acting. We prefer to stick to covering songs and dances. Story Time Acting is reading a story (i.e. Korean/Japanese History, Korean/Japanese Myths, and/or Korean/Japanese children stories) as the Narrator, and Characters. Think of it as voice acting a short story. This ranges from teaching classes, performing at events, covering dances, and blogging about them. Each performance will be recorded and uploaded to the youtube page. This group can also contact cover groups for interviews (i.e. Chad Future, Gemini, ect.)
You can have a group outside of UF, and upload your own content and be partnered with us. We would help you be able to do performances at events. If you partner with us, and say you wanna do an EXO dance, but only have 4 members, you would talk to the rest of the unit and see if anyone else would like to join in.

Event Volunteer: So you read through the list and don’t feel that you fit well into any of the groups. An Event Volunteer will help out with Events we host. This means helping setting up and packing up. You are also the groups Hype Man, you give the ques on went to clap, laugh or join it. You will also be in charge of taking photos of the other members, friends and fans at these public events. Remember each group as full access to being a Facebook Page Admin.

Q&A:

How many positions can I apply for?
As of right now, for people starting out, only 1-3. We do not want you to feel overwhelmed and stuck doing something you don’t wanna do.

Do you have an Age limit?
We prefer you to be over the age of 15, because most concerts are at night, and we don’t want your parents to worry, also you would need approval from Parents to post videos and to attend events.

Do we get paid?
Sadly, no. We are working toward slowly making money to at least get concert/convention tickets for everyone in the group.

Do I have to know how to speak Japanese or Korean?
No! You only need to speak English, and if you do choose to do anything in Japanese and/or Korea, make sure it is correct.

I wanna be a foodie, but I’m a picky eater..
That is totally okay! You can try foods and stuff that you are comfortable with! We won’t force you to eat meat if you are vegan, or eat something you think isn’t good.

You can apply here.

Great Introduction KHIPHOP artists

List: Top 5 K-HIP HOP artists you should listen to get into it!

This list is in no particular order:

#5. DPR LIVE

Song:  DPR LIVE – CHEESE AND WINE

https://youtu.be/kFDg7HoLXyI

DPR Live is semi-new in the Khiphop realm but he really hit it off. DPR Live is very popular for good reason. Good beats? Check. Good Flow? Check. Catchy? Definitely. He really knows what he’s doing and it shows. DPR Live is a great starting point in khiphop because it is rap but it isn’t harsh and is pleasant to listen to. I always try to recommend him to my kpop friends.

#4. Dean

Song: Dean – Instagram

https://youtu.be/wKyMIrBClYw

Dean is a staple of krnb and has been for years. He has such an amazing voice and he uses it well. He does many collabs that are all so uniquely beautiful—my favorite being his collab with Suran, 1+1=0. Dean is a great way to get into krnb because he opens the door to many other artists you probably didn’t know. He is really amazing at what he does.

#3. GRAY (and an honorable mention Loco)

Song: Loco and Gray – Late Night

https://youtu.be/lCMfByr–_w

Gray is an amazing krnb/khiphop artist that got more well known by being on Show Me the Money 5 (an amazing show btw). He is from the company AOMG (started by Jay Park and Simon Dominic) which is home to many great artists. Gray and Loco are an amazing starting point because they show you the world that is AOMG and they are truly amazing singers and rappers.

#2. Zion.T

Song: Zion.T – The Song

https://youtu.be/ecxzqqHwe-4

Zion.T is my personal favorite krnb artist because of his great voice and music videos. He is always seen in sunglasses in his videos which I think is kind of nice in a strange way. Zion.T is a great way to get into krnb because he is a classic artist that really knows what he is doing and makes amazing songs only.

#1. Crush

Song: Crush – Woo Ah

https://youtu.be/6CM5iC_isug

Speaking of Classic Krnb artists, Crush! He is another staple of this genre. He has so many hits, it’s incredible. Crush has an absolutely amazing voice. He also does amazing collabs. Another thing about Crush is he can do any type of song: ballad, fast, anything and it will sound good. He is a good starting point because he is just a truly talented man.

[Music] Ella’s Top 10 Debuts of 2018

 10. PLT – Blah

I found PLT after they came out with Hocus Pocus in May. I really like this song because of its mixture of rap and vocals. Villian and Moti’s rapping mixed with June, Jung Jinwoo, and Gaho’s singing appeal to me. My favorite part of the song is the chorus. I also picked this song due to the great music video that comes along with it. The video is very aesthetic, showing the members as well as the city around them in a visually pleasing way. PLT’s videos have narrative connecting them together, which I do not completely understand it but it’s cool how they connect every video together.

9. LOONA – favOriTe

This debut had me very excited because it took Blockberry Creative 2 years to announce all of the members of the band. One of my favorite parts is the choreography and how it focuses on the member singing. It’s hard to balance line distribution with 12 members, but I wish they did a better job at giving every member their time to sing/rap. Overall though, this debut was very strong and made me– and most other fans– excited for what’s to come from LOONA.

8. (G)i-dle – La Ta Ta

These girls weren’t very popular yet they suddenly exploded onto the charts. It’s easy to see why with a great rap section– which you don’t see much nowadays with many cute girl groups– and a catchy chorus along with it. This video is pretty good, some parts have me slightly confused but that is somewhat normal. The majority of the video is the members dancing in various location with the rest being focused on the member singing. This song has made me like it more and more as I listen to it again and again.

7. Stray Kids – District 9

Once I heard Hellevator, I was very excited to see what this new JYP boy group could do. After seeing their 4 comebacks throughout the year I can say I’m impressed. They have released so many good songs and this is definitely in the top. I like the concept for the video, which is one that I haven’t seen before. The chorus is more of an EDM style but it isn’t too intense or  isn’t that bad.

6. UNB – Feeling

I really like UNB because I tried my best to watch the unit as it went on which made me excited to see both of the groups at the end. The chorus is my favorite part by far, it is very upbeat and has a way of making me very excited to listen to, I also really like intense choreography. The video is very aesthetic with a lot of dark colors like red, purple, and black. I really like this song because it is a combination of people from bands I really like, examples include; Hansol from Newkidd and Feeldog from Bigstar.

5. Lucente – Your Difference

This debut was one of my favorites. I didn’t know about this group until a little but before their debut, this debut would have gone under my radar unless I didn’t know about them beforehand. I love this concept and color’s used in the video, black, blue, and purple. They show all of the members well, by themselves and with the whole group. I also really like the pre-chorus and chorus, they are very intense which matches the concept nicely. I can’t wait to see more from this group.

4. D-Crunch – Palace

This 9 member group debuted with an intense style. The song consists of mainly rap but it’s not to over the top and it doesn’t get boring. The video is just them dancing, which is not a bad thing, and has a color scheme of black and red, trying to give off an intense vibe. They had a comeback in the second half of the year called Stealer which was one of my favorite songs of the year. I am very excited to see where these boys go in the future.

3. Noir – Gangsta

Noir is one of the more underrated groups of 2018. They have really good tracks but no one listens to them or knows they exists. This debut from them was very strong in my opinion. Have released a 2nd track, airplane mode, but I’m still excited to see what’s to come from these rookies. I hope they get more popular in the near future because they have so much talent.

2. Target – Awake

Target is one of my favorite groups. I found them through their companies other boy group TST (please check them out) a year before they debut. There debut blew me away. I love the rap that G.I does in the beginning of the song, I enjoy it because of his unique voice. The chorus makes me smile every time I hear it, it’s an intense song with a video to match. They had an amazing comeback in the 2nd half of the year called ‘Is It True’ which was a much slower song that grew on me over time. Target isn’t very popular yet so please check them out, and their many dance covers.

1. ATEEZ – Treasure

This debut blew me away. Ateez, previously KQ FELLAZ, had a later debut in the year but it was well worth the wait. This song has an amazing chorus, breaking away from the rap that comes before it, a slow and peaceful one that I really enjoy. The video is shot in the desert which matches the song very well. The song that came out at the same time, ‘Pirate King’, is one of my favorites of the year. They just had their first comeback, which is really good, and all I can say is that I’m very impressed. They had so much talent and deserve all of the new fans they are getting.

[Music] MinJoon’s Monthly Top 10 – July 2018

It’s now July, and the heat is kicking real hard in Vegas. Stay cool, stay hydrated. Let’s get onto our list shall we?

Tumblr_static_tumblr-static-transparent-flowers2

gugudan
10. Samina GUGUDAN SAMINA
I was a bit confused on if the sub unit was called Samina, or just the title was weird. So, looking into this, this sub unit is all the girls that participated in Produce 101 Season 1. There is a short scene where they all answer the phone, and each member has their own color; it honestly reminded me of Power Puff Girls, and their Emergency Phone. I thought it was kind of funny that the sign on the closed shop said “Sorry We’re Holiday!” The song and MV have this rockabilly vibe, almost a MAMAMOO powerhouse vintage feel, if ya get what I’m trying to say. Its a fun little vacation song, and I find it to be cute, and different from Gugudan’s usual style.

seventeen-oh-my
9. Oh MySEVENTEEN
Leave it up to Seventeen to play with the aesthetics. Their MV’s are always artistic in some sort of way, though they don’t always tell a story, they are very pleasing to watch. I also like how they took on the dancing this time, with the different times of movement; reminds me of those soldier walks. I’m really glad they brought back the clouds, it brought back memories of Adore U. They honestly never fail to impress me with how much talent they really do have.

Triple-H5
8. Retro FutureTriple H
The beginning of this music video kind of starts off looking like a purge movie, the show up at a couple’s house with masks and baseball bats, and ring the door bell, that seems to have a camera attached. The beginning also starts off with some Cha Cha Slide remix in the background, Well the trio makes it into the home and starts trashing it and playing around with the couple inside. The song itself has old funky beats and some new vibes, so it really fits with the title Retro Future; but we all know that if Hyuna is involved, its going to sound sexy as well. The MV also has a lot of ink spill filters to give it that old vibe as well, other than that it is very artistic.

Apink-Im-so-Sick-screenshot-2018-billboard-1548
7. I’m So SickApink
I feel as this month is a more retro/vintage month. In this video we have a lot of VHS filters, Old box TVs, and film tape, that unfortunately is being more abused than looked at, such as sitting in a sink, or being touched with fingers. I really enjoy the chorus it gives the song a different kind of feel to it. The lyrics go on to talk about how they don’t have the same feelings they used to, but how they don’t really want it to end, though they cannot continue lying about their feelings. It also feels like the other person’s feelings has changed as well, they say “you call every night when your drunk and show no sign of sincerity” So it seems both sides are trying to hold on to feelings that are no longer there.

twice
6. Dance The Night AwayTwice
Now this MV confuses me a tad bit and I have been reading into some theories for it. So, the girls end up on a strange island, and they start building shelter and gathering food and all that, and thanks to their good effort, they have a party. Well notice how Nayeon, Momo, Mina, and Jungyeon are all wearing full black dresses that don’t seem to fit the time era of the rest of the outfits? And they also didn’t really help create the shelter and/or help getting food. Twice even mentioned that this was a bit of a Horror theme, but at first glance you really don’t notice much. Some have theories that those in black are ghosts, and are trying to keep the rest of the girls on the island. It’s also strange how in the beginning they are calling out for help, and waving out to the ocean for any sign of help, but at the end, when a cruise ship passes by the island, they go back to sleep and forget about it. What’s your take on this MV?

kard-ride-on-the-wind-2018-billboard-1548
5. Ride on the WindKARD
I can always appreciate that KARD has a lot of choreography in their music videos, it really does tie the video together. I really like the summer beach vibes, it seems they honestly had a lot of fun filming this on the beach. To me the song sounds a bit like uncertainty in a relationship between friends potentially becoming lovers. The male part is asking how do I get into your heart, what am I not doing, I can wait; while the female part is asking, do you really like me, tell me you don’t hate me, and is all brought together with ‘Ride on the Wind’. Ride on the wind almost sounds like another way to say go with the flow, just let nature take its coarse.

astro-always-you
4. Always You ASTRO
Beautiful Astro, beautiful! I actually love this. Also I’m super excited about their hair colors this comeback, I have a soft spot in my heart for green hair. (if anyone remembers my hair was green for two years). This comeback has a lot of emotion in it, and I adore that ASTRO can always pull that off. The music video switches around from clear, black and white, to full colors and its very visually pleasing.

restmb_jhidxmake
3. EgotisticMAMAMOO
This song has a very Latin feel, but stays true to MAMAMOO’s unique style. They take on a very sensual feel to this MV; such as Hwasa in a bathing suit, Solar on a pole, the hip rolls, skit slits. I like that Moonbyul plays up her style a lot, between a Mariachi jacket to a very feminine two piece suit. You can also see more of Wheein’s tattoos, I’m not sure how many are hers or just for this comeback, but they suit her. I also like the new logo they are using.

FTISLAND9
2. Summer Night’s DreamFTIsland
Wow oh Wow, Hongki is looking cute! The way he acts in this music video reminds me of the way he acted as Jeremy in You’re Beautiful; just that shy almost dorky cute love. I do believe the theme has a bit of a MidSummer Night’s Dream in it, with the soft focus, flowers and romance. They are even performing in a theatre.

Leo
1. Touch and SketchLeo
Wow oh wow. This is really sexy. I am extremely proud that Leo is doing a solo, he’s so passionate with his work, and it shows in Canvas. The video in short reminds me of “Paint me like one of your french girls.” It’s very sexy, lots of painting, amazing choreography, it’s awesome. You can also see how much Leo has broken out of his shell, and how much his acting comes out in this.

migyo1
10. Rain SoundsMigyo
This song is all about missing someone, and how everything falls to memory after a long time. Through the video she goes through the grief of breaking up, and longs for them to comeback or call her when they are drunk. She talks about how her heart is stunned by the sorrow she feels and how everything she remembers is just a memory and no longer things that are happening at the moment.

2018-06-25_0-06-31
9. You Are My XXXXXUrata Naoya
Holy Crap, so, Urata is my bias from AAA (triple A, Attack All Around) released solo, that isn’t on itunes or anything, I just happened to see the teaser on twitter. Those who don’t know AAA, they are a 6 member group from Japan, that consists of 2 girls and 4 boys, that debuted in 2005. Anyways, I knew the title had XXXXX in it, but I had no idea it was gonna be lowkey sexy. Urata has such a unique voice and it fits this song and concept very well.

Screenshot-254
8. SunsetKim Dong Han
So JBJ’s Maknae has a solo! A very impressive Solo. He that some vibe Taemin gives off in his solos, not saying he’s like Taemin, just saying they have a very unique emotion when dancing. Its very sensual they way he dances, and the song fits perfectly with it. I’ve never listened to JBJ, but if this is the vibe him and his members are going to give off, I’ll give it a shot! It’s a very simple but visually pleasing MV.

red_velvet_cookie_jar_0
7. #Cookie JarRed Velvet
This video was a little weird, but super cute. Some how the girls found a random jar of cookies buried in the forest, and thought “Hey lets eat these!” and on this weird magic sugar high they are on, they start to add random ingredients to their sweets, such as shoes. Well now eating those sweets they start getting random buttons, ants and shoelaces inside those sweets, so they destroy all the sweets and smash the now ant infested cookie jar. TBH I hate finding weird things in my food, so it was a little hard for me to watch them pull weird stuff out of cakes and cookies. I do enjoy that the colors of their outfits shift to black to pink. Red Velvet never fails to impress me with their songs, and how often they put them out. Also Congrats on the 1st Japanese Mini Album!

Taeyeon-Something-New-screenshot-2018-billboard-1548
6. Something NewTaeyeon
I really enjoy MV that are half Black and White and half Color. As much as I miss Tae’s blonde hair, she looks amazing as always. It starts off with very random flashes of scenes and then Taeyeon crying, to stepping out of a car onto the red carpet. Then it goes to her being an assassin of sorts. Which usually there is a reason behind it, money, fame, revenge, but at the end Taeyeon throws her suitcases full of money and jewels while shooting them with a shot gun. Very odd but I dig it.

a.c.e-header-1
5. Take Me HigherACE
So I actually saw the Relay Dance of this before the MV, and I love the shorts haha. The dance on it’s own is fun and playful. The MV made me crack up a few times at them keeping a straight face while balls were flying at them. I like the bright colors and fun vibe of this MV a lot. Oh! Crop tops!

shinee-our-page
4. Our PageSHINee
Grab your tissues cause this MV hurt me a lot. Now I know SHINee is on this list twice, and please know that I write all of these out of order according to what comes out first, Anyways… The Music Video shows the members going through training, filming shoots, making music, but all have this underlining want to not feel or be there. It cycles through feelings and with the lyrics together its honestly really emotional. So these lyrics the members wrote for JongHyun, and the album even includes a special track with JongHyun’s vocals included. “목소리 날아 너 있는 곳에 닿을 거란 걸 우린 알잖아” Our voices are flying, We know it’ll reach you wherever you are. SHINee will always continue to fly as 5

Day6-shoot-me-screenshot-billboard-1548
3. Shoot Me DAY6
This is an amazing way to shine light onto verbal abuse. The lyrics say its easier to take a bullet than your harsh words. Verbal abuse can happen to anyone in any relationship, and from someone who has received verbal abuse, it honestly is hard to handle words that stick in your mind for a long time, and even DAY6 as idols, hearing harsh words constantly takes a toll on your well being.

Screen Shot 06-29-18 at 09.59 AM
2. 파블로프의 개 (Ft. Cold Bay, Basick)RAVI
So I honestly thought Ravi was going to have a video for this, since he seems to enjoy them, but I don’t blame him. This is a Mixtape, and not technically a comeback, but its new music and that’s what matters to me. It’s a good sound to bounce to, I dig it. I appreciate Ravi’s efforts and how he goes to his friends for feedback. It takes a lot to produce a mixtape, and this being his 3rd one. You can defiantly feel and hear how far Ravi has come.

shinee-iwantyou
1. I Want YouSHINee
I want you to love this song as much as I do. I absolutely adore this concept, the edit, the fashion, the style of song. This is a great Summer Bop. It has this late 80s early 90s computer vaporwave look to the MV, and their old fashion look, but with a modern song, *perfect.gif* Its just perfect.

[Music] MinJoon’s Monthly Top 10 – May 2018

After taking a ridiculously long break from this, I thought it would be a grand idea if I sparked this flame back to life. It is now the end of a very hot May here in Las Vegas, which makes it a great time to sit back, have a lemonade and listen to some tunes. Just a reminder that being 1 on the list does not mean it’s better than number 10, its just numbered in the order that I remember them. Edit: I set this to be a scheduled post, but it never posted, so I’m sorry that it’s being posted late!

10. You and IDreamcatcher
Dreamcatcher is on point with their style for all of their comebacks. I love the darkness and the fashion they bring to the stage. They have a bunch of sounds that sound almost similar to Japanese Visual Kei Rock, which I adore because you are getting the best of both worlds.

Hyukoh
9. Love YaHyukoh
Okay I love this music video. It’s so cute, it’s filled with lovers of different ages, genders, races, and cultures. It’s super laid back, the set is like a get together, and I love the vintage style to it. Who doesn’t just love love? And there is a cute dog in it! It’s just a big party of love, romantic, platonic, and family Love.

nflying-header
8. How R U TodayN. Flying
With beautiful scenic shots and a soft flow chill vibe, this MV is great. It’s got this soft blur focus and very aesthetic theme. I am digging the boost and blur filter through out the MV. I feel like I am going to sing this when I talk to people now, and I’m totally okay with that. I honestly love when MVs are shot out in nature, it just gives a good vibe.

AOA
7. Bingle BangleAOA
I am such a sucker for 8bit and video game themed MVs. This is super cute in how they incorporated the 8bit game characters into real live scenarios, instead of just making the whole MV in 8bit. Also, they are playing a game cube, that’s awesome!

00210890
6. OUTCASTSouth Club
It seems this month was full of very vintage filters and styles in MV, which I love, I live for this aesthetic. Taehyun is wearing the boyfriend tee, its got a super chill laid back theme to the MV. It’s filmed outside, the girls in the MV are beautiful. I love this.

NTB
5. DramaticNTB
Again with the beautiful filters on these MVs, they are so aesthetically pleasing. This is my first time hearing of NTB, but I really dig this song, the dance has a lot of the popular moves in it, such as the shoot dance. Beautiful scenic shots, playful boy running the town shots; overall its cute and modern, and I find myself singing the chorus as I type this.

I was honestly waiting for this comeback since Cory was dropping hints on his IG. I will admit, it wasn’t in till the second time listening to it that I started to like it; it is a lot all at once. I enjoy the car aspects in this MV, and as always, 24k always gets me with their dancing skills.

3. SelfishMoonbyul of MAMAMOO ft. Seulgi of Red Velvet
In this MV I love that they brought in some of Red Velvet’s fashion style but MAMAMOO’s silly hang out type music video style. It’s a nice balance between the two girls. Also, more video games! I am glad to see Moonbyul finding her style as a rapper and stepping out to do her own song, she’s an amazing singer and rapper, so hopefully this shows the world that it’s okay that she is selfish with her talents and how she uses them.

SHINee14
2. Good EveningSHINee
This song has such an amazing beat to it, and it feels really good to see SHINee back again. From the oranges to short hair, this is a very visual MV, there isn’t any defined story line, which is fine, its a beautiful music video regardless. I love the over all tone and color of this MV, its fun but chill, and it looks like there is a tad bit of angst in it as you see Key beating the piano keys.

BTS-Fake-Love3-1-e1526743817629
1. Fake Love BTS
So, for this MV, I found out that the director didn’t use any CGI, all the fire, water, explosions are 100% real. That is honestly amazing, it can get pretty pricey for that kind of stuff, and they pulled it off flawlessly. Not only is the MV true to it’s element, it was also debuted at the BBMAs here in Las Vegas, and the album hit No.1 on the BillBoard music charts. It’s also nice to see dark haired BTS again, and they seem to really be enjoying it. I will point out, that I wish I could buy BTS their contacts, more natural looking ones, cause it does weird me out that their contacts are just…. off, but that’s just a personal thing. Also, abs, didn’t know we were bring that back but I’m down.

BTS Steals The Show at BBMAs!

gettyimages-960615188-1526856361The weekend of May 20th was a really busy and fun weekend for Las Vegas. EDC was back in town that weekend. Also the Las Vegas Knights had their semifinals match that weekend at T-Mobile Arena. However, I took a different approach than those two. I went classier and went to the Billboard Music Awards that were being held at Grand Garden Arena at the MGM.
If you didn’t know the Grand Garden Arena was where they held K-Pop Masters years ago. This was the first time for me to be there though. When I got there it was so hectic. A lot of people! But understandable. It was just like my experience before the show at the American Music Awards again haha. Actually when I finally got inside and saw the stage set up it totally reminded me of how the AMAs stage looked too. Before the show even started I already felt the presence of ARMY in the audience as they were already practicing their fan chants counting down to the start of the show. When the show started Kelly Clarkson, this year’s host, started it by talking about the recent school shooting that took place in Texas which I liked because she set the tone for the rest of the show that we should just have a fun time that night but also remember what’s going on in the world and remind people that we can come together through a thing such as music and just feel united. They then did the introductions of everyone who was going to be featured that night on the awards show on the television screens in the arena; And then once I saw and heard BTS on those screens I was like, “This is it. This is really going to happen tonight! We are going to make big history again as a K-Pop community.” I’m just going to name off who performed throughout the night and who won the awards, because it’s hard remembering the exact order of the show entirely, because it was crazy fun. Then I’ll talk about BTS’s performance and award they won in more detail. So first off the performances. Performances of the night included stages by the likes of Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato, Arianna Grande, Dua Lipa, Shawn Mendes, John Legend, Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Lopez, Janet Jackson, Macklemore and Kesha, Kelly Clarkson, Camila Cabello and Pharrell, and Salt-N-Pepa. They actually had some good collab stages this year and it was cool to see some artists perform songs for the first time not just BTS. They had a lot of awards too. Top 100 Song went to ‘Despacito’ again. I think it won at the AMAs too. Top Female Artist was Taylor Swift then they played a little tribute video to her success as well. Top EDM Artist award went to Chainsmokers. I liked how during their acceptance speech –they also payed homage to fellow EDM artist Avicii. I used to listen to some of his songs too, so it was pretty nice that they did that. Post Malone won Top Rap Song. Taylor Swift actually also won Top Selling Album! Then everyone payed tribute as this year BBMAs honored Janet Jackson as 2018’s Icon Award winner. Bruno Mars presented the award as well. Sam Hunt took home Top Country Song Award. Then Camila Cabello took home Billboard Chart Achievement Award. There was one more award of the night for Top Artist of the year, but I actually didn’t get to see who took home that award. 33734200_10216578477277328_9188211493244502016_n
Now, let’s get on to the main attraction of the night. Well maybe just for me, ARMY, and other K-Pop fans out there. After continuous fan chants in the audience during commercial breaks for BTS which was starting to become funny because I could tell non-Kpop fans were starting to get annoyed, after Chainsmokers won the award for Top EDM Artist BTS were presented the Top Social Artist award with a landslide victory just like how they won it last year. They were pretty much up against the same nominees class they had last year too, so I was just waiting for it haha. The audience went crazy and I was so proud that BTS represented. I also liked the speech RM gave that their words carry weight in all of our hearts and help change lives. Jimin also slipped in a little Korean at the end and represented and paid respect for all of the other Koreans out there in the U.S. and back home and I was like, “Yesss!”. I’m also glad I was able to understand Jimin and knew what he said haha. I feel like it was good timing that they were presented with that award after Top EDM Artist, because EDM is almost close in style to K-Pop and BTS also worked with Chainsmokers before. Later on in the night I also got to see in person BTS perform their new title song FAKE LOVE even before they performed it on stage in Korea. Once again the arena went nuts. I think it was the loudest it was during the night as well –well besides when the Top Social Artist Award was being presented. It was so cool! I was one of the first ones to see the full choreography for FAKE LOVE performed and in person! It brought me back to unbelievable memories at the AMAs back in November of last year; but a little bit sweeter because besides the AMAs, the BBMAs where BTS first made their name known to a lot of people in America by taking home the award last year for Top Social Artist but not performing but saying to fans if given the opportunity they would love to perform on that Billboard Music Award stage. Therefore, being there in the same room with them as they got to accomplish that lifelong dream was indescribable and profound for me as well. I was glad that I was sitting next to some other BTS fans and also people that didn’t yet really know who BTS was, because we all had a fun next-level experience together. After BTS finished performing and the BBMAs went to commercial break, I actually decided to leave haha. That’s why I didn’t get to see who won Top Artist Award of the year; but hey, I still got my money’s worth and have no problem/regrets leaving haha(plus I didn’t want to deal with post awards show traffic again).image
After the BBMAs, I didn’t feel like going home yet and calling it a night. I wanted my night to stay legendary and turnt up. I actually already had a room reserved at Alexis Park Resort and went there and threw something to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. I guess you can say it acted as an after party as well for BTS haha. I ordered Honey Pig on UberEats, had some soju, played some beer pong, watched a BBMAs replay on tv so I got to see another perspective of BTS winning the Top Social Artist Award and performing FAKE LOVE, then called it a night. Woke up the next morning still in a good mood.

Getting High With H1GHR MUSIC in LA!

May the 4th be with me. And it was; because recently on May 4th I went to go see H1GHR MUSIC’s first United States tour. I headed over to LA, but this time to see Sik-K, Woodie Gochild, Ph-1, Jarv Dee, Avatar Darko, Phe Reds, Raz Simone, Ted Park, and Cha Cha Malone. It was a beautiful day in LA this time. It wasn’t as cold as when I went in April.

The show took place at 333 Live this time which is a 2 story nightclub located on South Boylston and West 4th streets. I’d say this time around we didn’t have to wait too long before being able to go in. The first artist to perform was Ted Park. Now keep in mind that before this concert I didn’t really listen to any of the artists’ music besides Sik-K and Woodie’s, so I didn’t know what to really expect except that it was going to be lit since the H1GHR MUSIC label was created by Jay Park and Cha Cha Malone. At first, I was kind of iffy on Ted Park’s music, but after seeing him perform live and first, he definitely got the crowd lit off the bat and set the great mood for the rest of the show. After him was the self proclaimed “bad boy” of H1GHR MUSIC: Avatar Darko. And he did live up to his name haha. He was climbing on top of the speakers and stuff getting hype and the crowd wild. I’m so glad he didn’t fall and create an awkward mood haha. Then for some reason in the middle of his set he decided to take his shirt off and belt out. Not unexpected though for the bad boy of H1GHR MUSIC.

The first 2 artists already made the people of LA tired haha but then they dropped Woodie on us and the mood went through the roof! I thought for sure Woodie was going to be one of the last artists to perform since he is such a popular part of the H1GHR MUSIC team –but hey, I was all for it. Woodie Gochild was one of the artists I really wanted to see on tour and I’m so blessed to finally see him in person perform live. Even more blessed that he performed his hit song ‘LET’S GET IT’ and unreleased material off of his upcoming album under H1GHR MUSIC! I would love to see Woodie Gochild in person perform live again somewhere. Then when the Gochild was done with his set, the vibe turned sexy as Phe Reds made his way on stage with his own guitarist. He performed his only song under H1GHR MUSIC so far ‘Smile’ since he is a newer artist, but he also did amazing covers of other songs too. Raz Simone then came out after Phe Reds slowed down the vibes and he created a based mood in the crowd haha. He parted the crowd in front of the stage all the way back to the sound guy who was in the back of the club just so that during his set he can interact with the crowd and go through them, so that everyone can feel as one. I liked that. There were two of his guys passing out little promotional cards of his website where you can go download his free music before the show outside. I might go check it out sometime after seeing what he did at the show. Then, Cha Cha even hit us with some songs –some songs of his own even –and people were excited to see him, because “We needed a Cha Cha beat boy!” hahaha. Then, I don’t know if a lot of people knew this about Cha Cha but him, Jay Park, Phe Reds, and other members of H1GHR MUSIC used to also be breakdancers. Cha Cha closed out his set by having a one on one battle with Phe. It was too hot. Even I was giving props as I was also a fulltime breakdancer in the past so I had to pay my respects. Jarv Dee came up after Cha Cha and I was cracking up because he kept saying, “Motherfxxking LA you ain’t loud enough. This is motherfxxking H1GHR MUSIC!” throughout his set haha. And hey, he wasn’t wrong. He was a beast on the mic though as the flow and intensity he brings while he raps is just fire. Even if I also didn’t know too much of Jarv Dee just like most of the LA crowd, I still found myself going hot and mean dancing and turning up to his music. He was nuts! hahaha! I think he is more of the “bad boy” of H1GHR MUSIC than Avatar Darko haha.

Then, the moment MOST of the crowd was waiting for –or at least I thought it was haha. I thought Sik-K was coming out on stage …but how could I forget that PH-1 didn’t perform yet?! I guess I was having too much fun throughout the entire show haha. I’m so glad this show seemed so much longer. So yeah, PH-1 came out next -looking fly as always and I was able to bring my mood way up again and get my happy vibes on as he performed ‘PERFECT’, ‘Donut’, and other of his bops. Then, to close out introducing the artists of H1GHR MUSIC, finally Sik-K the man I was there to see MOSTLY(as I’ve always been a big fan of his collabs on other artists’ work and his own chill music as well) came out looking like he didn’t know he was the man there everyone came to see haha. The crowd got so loud! I loved it haha. He performed ALL of his hits, so I’m not going to name them here as you all can just go and look ’em up and support his great music. I will say this though, he did perform some songs he did with Jay(he even performed some of Jay’s songs haha) and with artists he specially appeared for on Show Me The Money. Then after Sik-

K’s set I thought they were about to close out the show. Surprise! Yultron showed up hahaha! But I feel that story of that turn up is confidential and special to the people that went, so Imma leave that for us that went haha.

At the end of the show we took a picture -H1GHR MUSIC and the crowd. Try to see if you can find me haha. Probably not though, because the LA stop was SOLD OUT! H1GHR MUSIC then left us by performing ‘YeLowS Gang’ and ‘Life is a Gamble’ which I got up and turned the fxxk up because those are my songs and even pulled some boys and girls with me to dance. Ahh It was a lit time at 333 Live in LA on a beautiful Star Wars Day Friday. The night didn’t end though after the show at 333 Live. Oh nooo! hahaha! I met some new show friends that were also mostly there to see Sik-K and we headed over to Club Bound after in Koreatown. I was just there 2 weeks before the show for another show haha. And we had a great time at the H1GHR MUSIC afterparty. Me and one of them actually left together as they lived in LA and I am from Las Vegas, so we wanted to chill more. Ate my dinner at Denny’s on Figueroa. Then walked back to my hotel. I stayed at the LUXE which is a nice hotel also located on Figueroa. I won’t go into too much detail of what happened after the show at Club Bound and all the way back to the hotel and at the hotel, but I will say this: I had a really productive night and fun night that Friday. Waking up on Saturday on Cinco De Mayo with a friend in a hotel in Downtown LA felt like we were higher too.

San E and Mad Clown Bring Legendary K-Hip Hop Swag to LA With 1st NA Tour ‘We Want You Tour’

30714647_1649475005147817_1354950545035997305_nHistory went down this past Friday, 4/20. While some people were busily working the day away or indulging in the pop culture meaning of 4/20, San E and Mad Clown were busy working their first tour through the United States. 4/20 was their LA stop and I happily went. If y’all don’t know San E and Mad Clown, they are big names in the K-Hip Hop scene – notoriously known also through their time on Show Me The Money and Unpretty Rapstar. San E is my more favorite out of the two as he is one of my top 3 rappers in South Korea; but it is definitely hard to choose a better favorite between the two. On this tour San E and Mad Clown also bought star features to more amp up the tour as well. They bought along the beautiful, up-and-coming artist Sobae (she has such a great voice and is definitely someone to keep your eye on in the future. She has a chill and cool personality as well which is why she was a perfect complement to San E and Mad Clown.) and renowned dj in South Korea: DJ Juice also from the hip hop based record label, San E’s label, Brand New Music.

30859444_10216339461462082_482646061_n
8:30 was when people with VIP Meet and Greet were able to enter the venue, the UNION, and go take a picture with San E and Mad Clown — and also Sobae and DJ Juice as well! It was a pretty intimate and close setting as it was done person by person. I won’t share with y’all what I said to each artist as it was a personal moment for me and the artists …but I did hug Sobae and shake hands with Mad Clown, San E, and DJ Juice. After meet and greet was over doors opened for people that got GA and the venue filled up. There were couches on the side of the venue in opposition to a choice of standing in front of the stage since the venue was a nightclub after all. Good choice White Mountain Agency and SubKulture. To open up the show they brought out these 3 artists that I never heard of, but I think they were local artists who shall not be named in this account …since I forgot their names already. I took this time to pregame before the actual artists came out on stage and grabbed myself some beers and mingled with some local LA people and made some new temporary friends for the show. DJ Juice was of course the first one to come out on stage and hype up the crowd with his set. Sobae then came out minutes later and I was glad to see her again. She performed one of her only hits so far ‘Homegirl’. After her song, after keeping the people waiting in excitement, San E and Mad Clown came out on stage together due to Sobae hyping them up and performed their first collab song that they ever worked on together ‘Sour Grapes’. People were so glad and going crazy that two of the most notorious rappers in South Korea were finally in front of them performing in this moment in time. After ‘Sour Grapes’ San E and Mad Clown had a little fun with the crowd and were having a little on-stage back and forth wager of who the crowd came to see more haha telling the crowd to make some noise for either San E or Mad Clown. Of course I made a louder response for San E, but I also gave a reasonable cheer for Mad Clown as he is a legend as well. They then each proved themselves to the crowd as each of them both spit some verses from songs they did on Show Me The Money. It was still hard for the crowd to pick a clear favorite though. Clearly (haha). The atmosphere then switched over to more of a Mad Clown vibe as Mad Clown started performing more of his hits. I liked Sobae too, because she sung for the original female collabs from San E and Mad Clown’s songs that couldn’t be there. Some of my favorites that Mad Clown performed were his OST from Descendants of the Sun, ‘FIRE’, and ‘Love is a Dog From Hell’ among others. My god, my most favorite of his performances of the night though without San E was when him and Sobae performed ‘Stupid In Love’ together (…the whole song too!). I love that song! After Mad Clown had his time, San E came out and hyped up the crowd even more; And I was ready, because I actually also know more of San E’s songs. Surprisingly there were some songs that Mad Clown and San E performed that I don’t recall listening to which is a good thing because I get to discover more of their music now. But yes, when San E came out he performed some of his loved hits as well and I was ready! Among my favorites he performed: ‘Break Up Dinner’, ‘Story of Someone I Know’, and ‘Where Did You Sleep’ – songs I’ve been waiting to hear and see performed live. It was also sweet to see him and Sobae perform ‘Me You’ and ‘A Midsummer Night’s Sweetness’. I like the chemistry they have together. My most favorite performance from his set though was when he performed the song that got me into him in the first place –and that was ‘Body Language’ …even though he said on stage that that song was for the ladies hahaha. But hey, you know fellas be bumping that song too sometimes. After San E wrapped up his solo time, Mad Clown came back out (Sobae and DJ Juice behind the dj table) and then they performed the song we were waiting for the whole night, ‘Butterfly’. The crowd was so hyped! They even taught us the signature dance that goes with the song haha. Easy to do. Then, with every concert, the artists came to the point where they said they had to perform their last song and close up the show which of course was disappointing to everybody because San E and Mad Clown are just so awesome and no one wanted this experience of their first U.S. tour to end. They didn’t leave us though without entertaining us for one last time haha. They did an on the spot cosplay of each other’s style. It was funny because Mad Clown from out of nowhere pulled out a wig or hat of some sort that mocked the long colorful dreads that San E used to rock. That’s all I’m going to say about them here haha. Then they got lit with the crowd one last time in LA as they performed ‘Sour Grapes’ once again. It was in that moment that everyone in that room was just so thankful that San E, Mad Clown, Sobae, DJ Juice, and U.S. fans came together for a first time. It was an awesome, unforgettable show and hands down one of my top 3 shows of this year out of all of the shows that I’ve gone to or am going to this year.
The UNION was such a good, chill venue even though it was my first time being there. The staff of the show and venue even too were all pretty cool. I liked that the nightclub was in Koreatown too. After the concert San E and Mad Clown actually had an afterparty at popular Club Bound in LA K-Town as well. But I will not talk about the shenanigans that went down there in this blog haha. When the night was over I enjoyed my coziness in my hotel bed at an adorable, fancy hotel in Koreatown called the Rotex Hotel and Condos. It was a great trip overall and I can’t wait for my next time down in LA for my next show in just 2 weeks again haha.
